Meeting The Wild Fire Horse
I feel like we should say ‘Happy New Day’ everyday and in essence that is surely what our true, uncorrupted nature/spirit is saying underneath all of our walls, to everyone who crosses our path.
What holds us back from loving as deeply as we desperately want to love? What stops us from reaching out when we love someone with all of ourselves but instead we choose aloneness, separation or angst?
In yoga there is understanding of it all. Why we do the crazy things we do. What it means to be human - spiritual creatures having this wild earthly experience. Why we hurt, love, ache, celebrate, suffer, become confused and how clarity is a driving force to betterment. This seeing that comes with yoga, doesn’t always make things easier, sometimes it can have us screaming in frustration because the path to a better world is so simple yet we deviate instead toward destruction and hurt. But what it does enable us is the understanding of how to keep ourselves steady in the turbulence - practice, practice, practice.
So today in practice, I want to say to you - welcome to a new day, a new moment, a new letter from us. I want to be part of crossing divides, to say here is a place of safety, a sanctuary to slow your breath down, to lessen hypervigilance, to fill the void of loneliness with laughter and the connection of becoming familiar, rather than fragmented, with others. I want to say you are loved, that you are precious and tender and necessary. The collective of kindness has never been more necessary, cohesion with ourselves, with others and the beautiful world around us, the trees, the animals, the seasons, has never been so called for.
The days, weeks, months and years as we know have certain qualities. I reflect back on high school for example and it was evident in the overall feel or energy of the kids in each changing year. What it is to be 10 or 12 or 16 or 60 the changing seasons of our life. Many cultures, particularly Indigenous people have the wits to see, recognize and commit to working with these patterns, rhythms or cycles. These things branded as naive by those who want to take and pillage for their own greed, are the very things that will save us.
This is the year of the horse. When you think of a horse what comes to mind? The Horse symbolises strength, speed, a dynamic power, heightened awareness to surroundings - people, place.
This is the year of fire. The fire energy brings passion, an intensity and also a dynamism. A capacity for extreme transformation.
This combination is a powerful energy to stir up change, spark motivation and intensify an individual drive and determination for movement towards change. Burning up of the old, through passionate drive in the chaos of life.
To harness such a powerful energy, we must ground, nurture ourselves and each other to sustain this fast and intense undercurrent. A slow burn to excellence, as opposed to incinerating into ash. It's good, necessary and what is but it needs to be steered and maintained for endurance and success, both gently and with confidence.
It’s a massive time to be celebrated and entered into right.
