Turning Fifty

Today, I want to acknowledge the honour it is to grow older, and to grow older with others. Whether those others are our friends, family, colleagues or lovers. We can be surrounded by people, but our own obstacles can confine us in a sphere of loneliness. Those obstacles are within us, walls of:

Expectations

Judgement

Opinions

Intolerance

Discrimination

FEAR

As today, I stand beside someone that I committed to walking with for this part of our lives, as I celebrate him aging, as we high five that miraculously we’ve both been graced with many decades (in spite of younger attempts to see just how much these bodies could take), I’m struck by the ever-changing landscape of life. Of our bodies, our attitudes, our faces, our dreams. I’m reminded just how important a growth mindset is. How much a growth mindset is at the centre of everything that I’ve ever achieved. How imperative it is to be malleable because everything is always changing and malleability allows us to meet the moment. In all of it’s glory.

We only have so many seasons walking in the one body, matter is finite - so as today, when one of the greatest, embodied yoga teachers in the world quietly celebrates a milestone birthday - the birthday that leaves little room for doubt that the length already lived, is longer than what’s left to come - I ask you:

- Who do you want to be when you’re 70?

- If you’re already 70, who do you want to be when you’re 80?

- How would you like to feel in your body?

- Who do you want to be in your heart?

- How do you want people to feel when they walk away from being in your presence?

Become clear on that and then walk towards that you, with the decisions that you make today.

So much love from us to you x.
