Feed Your Smorgasbord
In the past two days I’ve been on ABC Sydney Mornings with the wonderful Sarah Macdonald, project managed CONVERGE a Lismore-based artist in residency and creative enterprises development program, been to my son’s athletics carnival, kicked off 5 Winter mentorships in my clinic as a Yoga Therapist and launched the first of a series of professional development programs for a group of amazing artists.
That might seem exhausting but what I’ve learned to be very true, is that it’s not hard work that’s tiring, it’s doing work you don’t love. Getting to that point, can take time and when you’re younger everything seems distant, impossible, urgent and like it’s never going to happen.
There’s not yet the distance between your young footsteps and the life you’ve created, to see how impactful each and every footstep was to get you to where you want to be. This is why there are two things so vitally important:
1 - Knowing where you want to be going. This is about what’s in your heart, not in your head, which in itself can be tricky to see but with effort, consistency and a discipline to joy, the voice of who you are really at centre, grows louder and clearer. Knowing where you want to be going in your bit uninhibited dreaming, is your red pin on the map. It gives you a decision-making framework for the daily. Which choice is going to lead me closer to that or further away?
2 - Continuously and consistently refining your body and your mind, with breath at the centre. Everyday, sharpening these vehicles of action - the things that actually allow you to do what you want in the above! - by getting up and moving consciously, to the extent (in every movement) of your comfortable fullest potential, with the movement riding on a quality technique of breathing. This sharpens the axe of body and mind, whilst simultaneously improving the most important part of your constitution - your respiration.
When you know where you’re going and you look after the vehicle that’s going to get you there, you’re in with one hell of a good shot at arriving at a place where you have the ability to do whatever you want to do, because what you’re doing is what you love. One step at a time, in the right direction.
